A Propos de CuscoMusées

The Inca Museum:
located in the Admiral's Palace Times: Mon.-Fri.08.00-17.00; Sat. 09.00-17.00. With a brand new extension, this building now houses a vastly-improved display of mainly Inca material. No information in English, but well worth a visit.

Pre-Columbian Art Museum (MAP):
Around the year 1450 A.D., the beautiful old colonial mansion which the Pre-Columbian Art Museum presently occupies, was a ceremonial Inca courtyard. It became the residence of the conquistador Alonso Díaz in 1580 and by the year 1650 had become the estate o the Spanish Count Luis Jerónimo de Cabrera y Serna. Completely restored, it has been home to the Pre-Columbian Art Museum since June of 2003.
This extraordinary historical landmark of Cusco , houses the first and only Peruvian museum dedicated to highlight the artwork and artistic achievement of the ancient cultures of Peru . The building decoration characterized by several modern techniques of museum planning, arrangement and interior design, as well as artful-intelligent lighting and carefully considered lay-out, enhances the beauty and quality of Peruvian painting, sculpture and ceramics.
The works of art displayed at the MAP, encompass a period of time dating from 1250 B.C. until 1532 A.D. All these were selected from among the collection of almost 45,000 pieces stored in the Larco Archaeological Museum in Lima . This excellent selection of samples combined with explanatory and descriptive texts in Spanish, English and, alternatively, French, allows visitors to adequately situate themselves within the artistic context of Ancient Peru.

Regional Historical Museum Casa Garcilaso:
Mon.-Sat. 08:00-17:30. Collection of archaeological material and colonial paintings. It is one of the visited museums in the city. It occupies the house of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, celebrated for their Real Comments. This large house, transformed into Regional Historical Museum from 1946, is a reliquary of colonial art and it is located to only two blocks of the Smain square. The museum has an auditory and a room of temporary exhibitions. A journey detailed delay 35 minutes.

Santa Catalina Museum:
Santa Catalina Angosta (1/2 block from Pl. de Armas). Mon.-Thurs. & Sat. 09.00-15.00. Fri. 09.00-15.00. A collection of colonial-era paintings and artefacts.

Museum of Religious Art:
Corner of Hatunrumiyoc and Palacio. Mon.-Sat. 08.00-11:30 & 15.00-17.30. Contains many colonial paintings. The museum's greatest treasure is a famous and fascinating series of twelve paintings depicting the Corpus Christi processions of 17th-century Cusco -but inexplicably and deplorably, the archbishopric has withheld these paintings from public view for more than four years at this writing. The Museum feature valuable paintings from the Cusqueña School and a collection of paintings of Corpus Christi . The Museum of Religious Art is located in the Archbishop's Palace, on the corner of calle Herrajes and calle Hatun Rumiyoq, which is on of the most visited streets in Cusco . Here, visitors can see the famous Stone of twelve Angles. This enigmatic stone, which more often than not ignites the admiration of travellers, is intricately joined together with other huge stones on all sides. The twelve-angle stone is part of the current Museo de Arte Religioso ( Museum of Religious Art ) and was formerly the palace of Inca Roca and later the Palacio Arzobispal (Archbishop's Palace).
