Location:
The city of Cusco is located in the central region of the Department of Cusco, and is situated at 13º 30'45" Southern latitude and 71º58'33" western longitude from the Greenwich Meridian. Cusco 's Plaza de Armas sits at an altitude of 3,390 m.a.s.l. (11,122 ft).

Weather:
Cusco has two well-defined seasons: The dry season from April to October, with sunny days, cold nights and an average temperature of 13ºC (55.4ºF) - the dry season is the best time of year to visit Cusco; and the rainy season from November to
March, with lots of precipitation and an average temperature of 12ºC (53.6ºF).
Warm clothes are a must in the evenings, as are sunblock and sunglasses during the day.
Altitude sickness, called "soroche", is a contingency that visitors must take into account. Visitors should rest on the first day of arrival, eat only light meals, and avoid alcohol.

Geography:
Cusco is situated in a unique and beautiful location in the upper center of the most historical valley of Peru. Two snowcapped mountains - Salqantay to the north and Ausangate to the south - are the city's eternal natural guardians.

All major hotels offer national and international in-room phone service. As well, visitors can make national and international telephone calls from public pay phones. The code numbers for the different countries and cities appear in most of the booths. To make an international telephone call dial: 00 + country code + city code + telephone number. To make a national telephone call dial: 0 + city code + telephone number. Cusco 's public pay phones accept both coins and cards, which are sold in stands, stores and supermarkets.
Cellular telephone service is available via international mobile carriers, including Telefonica, TIM and Bellsouth.
Internet services are easily found in a number of Internet cafes, the average charge is S/. 2.00 ($ 0.60) per hour.

Postal Service:
National postal service is available to the various provinces and departments of Peru and foreign countries via Peru 's national postal service, Serpost, located on Avenida El Sol. There are also several international courier services available.
